Some of our favourite beaches

There are loads of great beaches in the area, some busier than others.  These are some of our favourites ...

Tregardock Beach:

This is our 'local' beach - about a mile's walk from Rose Cottage.  Tregardock is a 'wild' beach: it has no amenities, is not lifeguarded and it is a bit of a scramble down the rock steps to reach the beach.

Trebarwith Strand:

Is the nearest beach which is staffed by lifeguards during the summer.  Trebarwith is great for surfing or body-boarding, for playing in the rockpools and also for building sandcastles and other excavations.  The beach is huge when the tide goes out, so fabulous for dog-walking too.

The Port William pub - a long-term favourite - is located on the cliffs above the beach, but there are a couple of shops for tea, coffee, ice cream and pasties.

Polzeath:

Polzeath offers a huge sandy beach and there is sand even at high tide.  There a several surf shops, cafes and restaurants - and surfing lessons are available too.  Polzeath is a popular resort and it does get very busy during peak season.

Daymer Bay:

Just round the corner from Polzeath toward Padstow/Rock, Daymer Bay is a good option for smaller children.  The beach is tucked into the mouth of the Camel estuary, so the waves are much smaller and the sand shelves down very gently into the water - on sunny days, the water actually gets quite warm!  There is a car park right by the beach and a cafe/shop for refreshments.
